A sailing cruise puts the emphasis on being on the river, with a smaller deck and a simple midnight toast. It suits travellers who prefer conversation to a dance floor, although music and group size vary. The crew may use the engine, so booking a sailboat does not guarantee sailing under canvas.

A party boat puts music and socialising first. Compare the DJ, passenger capacity, covered space and exact drinks list. An open bar can cover beer, wine and sangria without including every spirit or champagne brand.

A dinner cruise should explicitly include a meal and describe its menu and service. Pizza, cheese boards, cake or a champagne toast do not establish that a seated dinner is provided. If dinner is essential, request the menu and dietary options before booking, or eat ashore before boarding.

Where do New Year’s Eve cruises depart?

Blue Cruises departs from Estação Fluvial Sul e Sueste, beside the central waterfront. It is the most convenient central boarding point in this shortlist for visitors staying near Baixa, but allow extra time around the crowded riverfront.

BLOO lists Doca do Bom Sucesso, Gate 3, in Belém. Use the pin on your voucher, because meeting points can vary by booking option. Belém is farther from the central countdown area, so plan the journey back after the cruise.

Marlin Tours meets at Blue Skipper Snacks & Drinks, Doca de Alcântara Norte, Gate 3. Ondas de Angelo uses Doca de Santo Amaro, Gate 3. These are different docks. Sardinha do Tejo supplies separate meeting points for the catamaran and Évora options; select your boat before saving the boarding pin.
