Lisbon to Cascais by train
The train from Lisbon to Cascais is the option we recommend for most travellers.
Trains leave from Cais do Sodré station, on the waterfront in central Lisbon, and run directly to Cascais. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes, with several coastal sections along the way.
Cascais is the final station, so there is no need to change trains.
A standard CP ticket currently costs 2.45€ one way or 4.90€ return. If you do not already have a reusable Navegante occasional card, you may also need to purchase one.

Is the train to Cascais included with the Lisboa Card?

For three or four people, the additional cost compared with the train may be reasonable if convenience is your priority.
Lisbon to Cascais by taxi
A conventional taxi from central Lisbon to Cascais generally costs around 35–50€, depending on your starting point, traffic and time of day.
It is usually more expensive than Uber or Bolt, so we would only choose it if you prefer a traditional taxi or find a convenient taxi rank nearby.
Lisbon to Cascais by car
Driving gives you more flexibility, particularly if Cascais is only one stop on a longer coastal itinerary.
The distance from central Lisbon is approximately 30 km, normally taking around 30–45 minutes via the A5 outside peak traffic.
A car becomes much more useful if you also want to visit places outside central Cascais, such as Guincho Beach, Cabo da Roca or the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.
If Cascais itself is your only destination, however, the train is generally easier because you avoid traffic and parking.
